Best Times for Meetings Between the US and India or the Philippines

Updated

Quick answer

For most US cities, a normal working day does not overlap with one in India or the Philippines, so someone stretches. The two workable windows are early in the US day (evening in Asia) and evening in the US (next morning in Asia). For New York and India in US winter time (November 1 to March 14), try 8 to 9 AM Eastern (6:30 to 7:30 PM in India) or 8:30 to 9:30 PM Eastern (7 to 8 AM the next day in India). The exception is the West Coast and the Philippines: in US winter time, 4 to 5 PM in Los Angeles is 8 to 9 AM the next morning in Manila, inside both working days. When US clocks go back on November 1, meetings set in US time land an hour later in India and the Philippines.

How far apart are the US, India and the Philippines?

India uses one time zone, UTC+5:30, and the Philippines uses UTC+8. Neither changes its clocks. The US does, so the gap is one hour smaller in US summer time (mid-March to early November) than in US winter time. In this guide, a working day means 8 AM to 5 PM local time, the same as WherOra’s meeting planner.

Chicago (CT)11½ hours10½ hours14 hours13 hours
Los Angeles (PT)13½ hours12½ hours16 hours15 hours

Toronto keeps the same time as New York; Dallas, Houston and Austin match Chicago; San Francisco and Seattle match Los Angeles. The half hour in India's offset catches people out: a call on the hour in New York starts at half past in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru.

East Coast and Central: the US morning slot is the usual choice, and in summer it is the only comfortable one from New York: an evening call would have to start at 9:30 PM Eastern or later to reach 7 AM in India. The morning slot is the end of the day in India, so it suits a short daily stand-up or a weekly review, as long as it does not run past 8 PM there. West Coast: in winter the morning slot pushes India to 8:30 PM or later, so many teams use the US evening instead, which is the start of the next working day in India.

Best meeting times between the US and the Philippines

The Philippines is 12 to 16 hours ahead, so the US evening is the next morning in Manila. That makes the US evening the natural slot for most pairs. As above, each cell is a one-hour meeting that keeps both sides between 7 AM and 10 PM; the first line is US time, the second is Philippine Standard Time (PHT). From Los Angeles, the Manila-morning slot falls in the US late afternoon.

West Coast: this is the easiest pair in this guide. In US winter time the two working days share one hour: 4 to 5 PM in Los Angeles is 8 to 9 AM in Manila the next day. In US summer time they only just touch: 5 PM in Los Angeles is 8 AM in Manila, so a 5 to 6 PM call means a short stretch for the US side. East Coast: 7 to 8 PM Eastern in US winter time is 8 to 9 AM in Manila; the morning alternative ends at 9 PM there.

Many Philippine support and outsourcing teams already work night shifts on US hours. If your colleagues do, schedule inside their shift rather than their daytime, and the time difference matters much less, though their shift may move an hour in Manila time when US clocks change. Compare New York and Manila, Los Angeles and Manila, Chicago and Manila or Toronto and Manila.

What changes on November 1

US clocks go back one hour at 2 AM on Sunday, November 1, 2026. India and the Philippines do not change, so every recurring meeting moves for one side. Which side depends on the time zone the calendar invite was created in.

  • Invite set in US time: the US side stays put and Asia moves an hour later. A 9 AM New York meeting moves from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM in India, and from 9 PM to 10 PM in Manila.
  • Invite set in India or Philippine time: Asia stays put and the US moves an hour earlier. A 7 PM India meeting moves from 9:30 AM to 8:30 AM in New York.

Decide which side should absorb the hour before November 1, and tell people. It flips back on March 14, 2027, when US clocks go forward. The autumn clock-change guide lists this season’s changes in other countries.

Slots to avoid

  • US Friday evening. It is already Saturday morning in India and the Philippines. Most offices there are closed at weekends, although some Indian companies work alternate Saturdays.
  • US Sunday evening. It is Monday morning in Asia, which works for them but costs the US side its weekend. Use it for launches, not routine meetings.
  • Writing “PST”. In the Philippines it often means Philippine Standard Time, which is 16 hours ahead of Pacific Standard Time. Write the city instead; the time zone abbreviations guide has more pairs that clash.
  • Public holidays. India has three national holidays (Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti); the rest of the holiday calendar varies by state and employer. The Philippines confirms its holiday dates, and adds special non-working days, by presidential proclamation each year. Check the local list before planning a launch or deadline.

Keep it fair over time

When working hours do not overlap, one side always pays. Take turns: alternate the US-morning and US-evening slots every week or every month, so neither team is always the one staying late. Keep live meetings short and move status updates to writing. The fair meetings guide covers rotating, splitting and invite wording in detail, and the meeting planner shows everyone's working hours side by side for any date.

Frequently asked questions

No. India stays on UTC+5:30 and the Philippines on UTC+8 all year. Only the US side changes, on the second Sunday in March and the first Sunday in November.

What is the best time to call Manila from California?

Late afternoon in California is early the next morning in Manila. In US winter time, 4 to 5 PM Pacific is 8 to 9 AM in Manila, the hour both 8-to-5 working days share. In US summer time, 5 to 6 PM Pacific is 8 to 9 AM in Manila, just after the US working day ends. Of the pairs in this guide, it is the only one where the working days overlap, and only in US winter time.
