Clock changes in autumn 2026: every date that shifts your international meetings

Updated

Quick answer

Between September and November, clocks change on six dates around the world. The big three are October 4 (southeast Australia moves forward), October 25 (the UK and EU move back) and November 1 (the US and parts of Canada move back). Each one shifts the time difference between some cities by an hour, even for cities that never change their own clocks.

Update, October 31, 2026

Not all of Canada changes its clocks any more. From November 2026, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, the Northwest Territories and northwestern Ontario stop changing their clocks (as Saskatchewan and Yukon already had), so only most of Ontario, Quebec, the Atlantic provinces, Newfoundland and Labrador and most of Nunavut fall back on November 1. Your meetings feel every clock change

Most people only notice their own clock change. Your meetings notice every one of them. When Sydney moves forward, a call from New York arrives an hour later in Sydney. When London moves back a week before New York, every transatlantic call moves for a week. And when the US falls back, a team in Manila, Mumbai or Tokyo sees its US meetings shift an hour, although their own clocks never move.

This guide lists every change this autumn, shows what each one does to common city pairs, and ends with a short checklist for recurring meetings. All dates are checked against government sources and the time zone database WherOra's clocks use.

Every clock change in autumn 2026

Six dates, in order. Times are local; “forward” means clocks jump ahead one hour, “back” means the hour repeats.

Not changing this season: Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory; British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and northwestern Ontario in Canada; Chile's Aysén and Magallanes regions. The reverse changes come in spring: March 14, 2027 in the US and March 28 in Europe; April 4 in Australia and New Zealand.

What each change does to your meetings

Each clock change moves the gap between that region and everyone else by one hour. Here is what shifts, date by date. Differences show how far the second city is ahead of the first.

October 4: Sydney and Melbourne move forward

Southeast Australia gains an hour on the rest of the world. A call fixed in New York or Singapore time now lands an hour later in Sydney.

City pairBefore Oct 4From Oct 4
New York → Sydney+14h+15h
Singapore → Sydney+2h+3h
London → Sydney+9h+10h
Tokyo → Sydney+1h+2h

Example: a Thursday 5 PM call from New York reached Sydney at 7 AM Friday. From October 4 it arrives at 8 AM; after the US falls back on November 1, at 9 AM. Brisbane does not change, so Brisbane and Sydney are an hour apart until April.

October 25: the UK and Europe move back

This is the change that moves the most meetings. Europe falls back a week before North America, so for one week every transatlantic gap shrinks by an hour. Our guide to the daylight saving gap weeks covers that week in detail.

City pairBefore Oct 25Oct 25–31From Nov 1
New York → London+5h+4h+5h
Chicago → London+6h+5h+6h
New York → Berlin+6h+5h+6h
London → Dubai+3h+4h+4h
London → Singapore+7h+8h+8h
London → Mumbai+4½h+5½h+5½h
London → Tokyo+8h+9h+9h

Example: a 9 AM London stand-up was noon in Dubai. From October 25 it is 1 PM in Dubai, and the Asian side of every Europe–Asia meeting moves an hour later, for the whole winter.

October 29: Egypt moves back

Egypt changes four days after Europe. From October 25 to 29, Cairo is 3 hours ahead of London instead of the usual 2; from October 30 the usual gap returns.

November 1: the US and eastern Canada move back

The US change resets the transatlantic gap and pushes every US–Asia meeting an hour later on the Asian side, because India, the Philippines, Japan and China do not change their clocks.

City pairBefore Nov 1From Nov 1
New York → Manila+12h+13h
New York → Mumbai+9½h+10½h
New York → Tokyo+13h+14h
Los Angeles → Tokyo+16h+17h
Los Angeles → Manila+15h+16h
New York → Sydney+15h+16h

Example: an 8 PM New York handoff to Manila arrived at 8 AM. From November 1 it arrives at 9 AM. An 8 AM New York call with Mumbai moves from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM in Mumbai, which is late for a team finishing at 6.

The US House voted in July 2026 to make daylight saving time permanent, but the bill has not passed the Senate, so the November 1 change goes ahead as usual (House Energy and Commerce Committee).

Places that don't change their clocks

Most of the world keeps one time all year, but their gaps with Europe, North America and Australia still move twice a year.

RegionKeeps the same time all year
AsiaIndia, China, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Singapore, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh
Middle EastUAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey (since 2016), Iran (since 2022)
AmericasMexico (since 2022, except some border cities), Brazil (since 2019), Argentina, Colombia, Paraguay (since 2024), Arizona, Hawaii, Saskatchewan, Yukon and, from November 2026, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba and the Northwest Territories
OtherRussia, most of Africa, Queensland, Western Australia, Northern Territory

If you work from one of these places, you get every change on the list above second-hand. A team in Mumbai or Manila working with both London and New York sees its meeting times move twice this autumn: on October 25 and again on November 1.

Mexico is the easy one to miss. Most of Mexico stopped changing its clocks in 2022, so Mexico City and Chicago are an hour apart in summer and on the same time in winter. Border cities such as Tijuana still follow the US dates.

Checklist for recurring meetings

Five minutes now saves a missed call later. Before October 25:

  1. List your recurring meetings with people in another country. Note which cities are on each one.
  2. Check which dates touch each meeting. A call between two cities moves when either city changes its clocks, so one meeting can move twice this autumn.
  3. Decide whose time the meeting is anchored to. Calendars keep a recurring event fixed in the organizer's time zone; everyone else's local time moves. Make sure that is the side you want to stay fixed.
  4. Look ahead at the new local times. Check each meeting in the week after every change in a time zone converter or on its city-pair page. Watch for calls that now start before 8 AM or after 6 PM for someone.
  5. Tell people before the week it happens, not on the day. One line is enough: “From November 2, our Monday call is at 9 AM New York / 2 PM London / 7:30 PM Mumbai.” Name cities, not abbreviations like EST or BST.
  6. Put the spring dates in your calendar now. The gaps move again on March 14 (US), March 28 (Europe) and April 4 (Australia and New Zealand), 2027.

If a shift pushes a recurring call outside someone's working day, our guide to scheduling fair meetings across time zones covers rotating or splitting the slot.

Frequently asked questions

When do the clocks go back in 2026?

In the UK, Ireland and the EU on Sunday, October 25, 2026, at 01:00 UTC. In the US and parts of Canada on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at 2 AM local time. Clocks go back one hour.

Will the US still change its clocks on November 1, 2026?

Yes. The House passed a bill in July 2026 to make daylight saving time permanent, but it has not passed the Senate or become law, so clocks fall back on November 1 as usual.

When does daylight saving start in Australia in 2026?

On Sunday, October 4, 2026, at 2 AM in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT. Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory do not change. It ends on April 4, 2027.

Why does my meeting with India or the Philippines move if their clocks don't change?

Because the other city's clocks do. When London or New York falls back an hour, the same local time there arrives an hour later in Mumbai or Manila.

What is the time difference between New York and London during the gap week?

4 hours, from October 25 to October 31, 2026, instead of the usual 5. It returns to 5 hours on November 1.

When do the clocks change again in 2027?

The US moves forward on March 14, 2027, Europe on March 28, and Australia and New Zealand move back on April 4, 2027.
