# Total solar eclipse: August 2, 2027

The “eclipse of the century” crosses southern Spain, North Africa and the Middle East, with up to 6 minutes 23 seconds of totality in Egypt. See when totality happens in each city, and when that is in your own time.

**This is an example of a WherOra global event page.** It shows what your guests see: a countdown in their own time, times around the world, calendar buttons and a share kit. Make one for your webinar, launch or watch party in a minute.

## How to watch safely

- Look at the Sun only through eclipse glasses or a handheld viewer that meets the **ISO 12312-2** standard.
- Take them off **only during totality**, when the Moon completely covers the Sun’s bright face. Put them back on as soon as bright sunlight reappears.
- Outside the path you see a partial eclipse only, so keep your glasses on the whole time.
- Never look through a camera, binoculars or a telescope without a solar filter fitted on the front, and don’t combine eclipse glasses with them.

Based on [NASA’s eclipse safety guidance](https://science.nasa.gov/eclipses/safety/).

## How this page was made

We built it with the same form you can use, in about a minute:

- **Event name:** Total solar eclipse: totality from Spain to Saudi Arabia
- **Host time zone:** Ceuta, Spain (Central European Summer Time), one of the first places on land to see totality
- **When:** Monday, August 2, 2027 at 10:45 AM, for 2 hours, the time totality takes to cross from Spain to Saudi Arabia
- **Cities:** London, Casablanca, Cairo, Riyadh, Dubai, Mumbai, Tokyo, Sydney, New York and Los Angeles
- **Description:** a short summary with the safety reminder

The form below is filled in with these settings. [Change them to make your own](https://wherora.com/event/solar-eclipse-2027/#ev-create), or [start a blank event page](https://wherora.com/event/).

## Create an event page

Set the time in the host city. Everyone who opens your link sees it in their own time.

## The eclipse of the century

On August 2, 2027 the Moon’s shadow sweeps from the Atlantic across the Strait of Gibraltar, along the North African coast and over Egypt and the Red Sea before leaving land in Somalia. Near Luxor the Sun stays fully covered for about 6 minutes 22 seconds, far longer than most total eclipses. Around 89 million people live inside the path, and a much larger area, from Ireland to India, sees a partial eclipse.

## Planning a watch party across time zones

If your friends or colleagues are spread around the world, a single link saves a lot of “what time is that for me?” messages. An event page shows the countdown in each guest’s own time, marks which places get it in the middle of the night, and gives everyone a calendar reminder 15 minutes before it starts. ### When is the 2027 total solar eclipse?

On Monday, August 2, 2027. Totality first reaches land on the coasts of southern Spain and northern Morocco at about 08:45 UTC (10:45 AM in Spain). It ends at Bosaso, Somalia, at about 11:02 UTC and leaves the Horn of Africa a few minutes later. The greatest eclipse is at about 10:06 UTC over Egypt’s Red Sea Governorate.

### Where does totality last longest?

In Egypt, southeast of Luxor, where the Sun is completely covered for up to 6 minutes 23 seconds; Luxor itself gets about 6 minutes 22 seconds. Benghazi in Libya gets about 6 minutes 11 seconds and Jeddah in Saudi Arabia about 5 minutes 53 seconds.

### Can I see it from the UK, Ireland or North America?

Only as a partial eclipse. A partial eclipse is visible from Ireland, Great Britain, Iceland, southern Greenland, the far east of Canada and the eastern tip of Maine, as well as nearly all of Europe, most of Africa, the Middle East and parts of South and Southeast Asia. To see totality you need to be inside the narrow path, or you can follow a livestream.

### What time is the eclipse where I am?

The countdown at the top of this page shows when totality reaches Spain in your own time zone, and the cities list shows the same moment in ten other places. The table gives the start of totality in each city on the path in local time and in UTC.

### Is it safe to look at a total solar eclipse?

Only during totality, when the Moon completely covers the Sun’s bright face. At all other times, including the partial phases, look only through eclipse glasses or viewers that meet the ISO 12312-2 standard, and put them back on as soon as bright sunlight reappears. Never look through a camera, binoculars or a telescope without a proper solar filter on the front, and never use eclipse glasses with them.

### How do I make a page like this for my own watch party?

Go to the global event page, set the start time in your city, add the cities your guests are in and create the link. Everyone who opens it sees the countdown in their own time, with calendar buttons and ready-made posts to share.
